Islington Child and Young Person Counselling
Welcome to Islington Child and Young Person Counselling.
Looking for a counsellor for your child may be something you have been thinking about for some time or it may be a decision that has happened more recently, maybe at the suggestion of your child's school or educational setting. Some parents and carers may find it a straightforward decision, for some it can be a more stressful and worrying time.
I have worked for many years with children and parents /carers covering a very broad range of issues. I have an understanding that looking for counselling means finding a professional that you and your child have trust and confidence in.
I am happy to answer your queries and discuss any issues you may have concerning your child beginning counselling with me.

ABOUT ME
ABOUT ME
As a Child and Young Person Counsellor, I believe in an integrated approach in my work, meaning my work draws upon a range of therapeutic models and techniques from different schools of psychotherapy to best address the individual emotional, social, and developmental needs of children and young people.
EXPERIENCE
Before becoming a counsellor I had worked for 30 years in education as a teacher, Special Needs (including Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and ASD) and I have been Deputy and Head Teacher of a Pre-Prep. I have worked in both the mainstream and private sectors and have a very extensive understanding of what the pressures are for children in school, both in the primary and secondary range.
Working in schools I gained a great deal of understanding of the importance of well-being in children and young people. This inspired me to train as a counsellor as I saw such a great need in my work in education.
I realised that children struggling with their self-image and self-esteem and the myriad of other issues that arise for young people in schools (and outside) can be helped in a very positive way by counselling.
APPROACH
I believe in working with each individual young person in the most effective way for them. My aim is to provide a secure space where young people can feel comfortable in an environment that they experience as completely their own.
Counselling can be a daunting experience to embark on for young people (and parents and carers) and being open and clear at the very beginning and answering their questions helps alleviate anxieties.
Life is busy for all of us and for a person to be offered the opportunity of a space where they feel comfortable, will be listened to carefully by a professional and to express themselves, knowing their privacy will be respected can be a valuable experience.
